The Second Muslim-Catholic Forum


Under the patronage of The Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought, the second conference of the Muslim-Catholic Forum, “Reason, Faith and Human Person: Christian and Muslim perspectives”, was held in the city of Al-Maghtas, Jordan between 21-23 November, 2011. A total of 48 senior scholars and representatives from both faiths were in attendance.

The Muslim delegation included prominent figures like HRH Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, the Grand Mufti of Egypt, Ali Gomaa, Grand Mufti of Bosnia and Herzegovina Mustafa Ceric, Shaykh Abdallahbin Bayyah, Habib Umar bin Hafiz, and Habib Ali al-Jifri among others. The Catholic delegation included Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, Professor Stefan Hammer, and Father Francois Bousquetamong others.

This conference followed up on the success of the first which was held at the Vatican in 2008. The delegates also had the chance to meet His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan, who welcomed the members and expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Forum in promoting dialogue between Islam and Catholicism.
